How Much Am I Worth?
Have you ever asked yourself that question?
Has anyone ever told you how much you were worth?.... in a way that truly impacted you and stayed with you?
…Someone from whom hearing the answer would carry great significance…. A father?
A boyfriend?
Do you KNOW how much you are worth?
Why don’t you ask yourself that question… but be still… and listen… Listen to what is whispered into your heart – into your mind… into your very being…. Into your spirit.
“How much am I worth?”
Did you hear the answer?
I hope that you did.
But perhaps you did not.
Whether or not you did, the answer is the same. If you did, do you know where that answer came from? Do you know why it was deep within you, inherently present and altogether true?
Let’s discuss where your value comes from so that you may know the truth of your worth from now on until forever.
The world has told you through their magazines and their celebrities and their Instagram and their music videos that your worth is determined wholly on the basis of your discernable attributes and their collective value…
…like a luxury sedan or high-end sports car, the more options and the more pleasing they are, the more value the automobile. From leather interiors to premium sound packages to high-performance engines, it’s such factors that determine whether a vehicle will be sixty-thousand, a hundred thousand, two-hundred thousand, or even half a million dollars.
This is called 'Estimation'.
Height, weight, hair-color, body-fat percentage, breast-size, breast-shape, sense of humor, intelligence, accreditation, occupation…
Is this how YOUR worth is estimated?
Or is there a better, more accurate way?
What about if you had an appraisal of an antique and that antique valued at, let’s say $20,000, went up for auction starting at $5,000 and only fetched $15,000? is it still worth the appraiser’s estimation of twenty thousand?
What if the bidding skyrocketed to $2,000,000?
How much is the antique worth?
If the $200,000 sports car is purchased by someone for $2,000,000, is it still only worth $200,000?
No, the value of something is never truly determined by estimation but only by what has been paid for it.
So then, that raises the question: if your value isn’t determined by the world’s estimation, or anyone else’s… but solely by what has been willfully paid to purchase something….
“What has been paid for you?”
Has anyone ever said to you, “I’d give the world for you?”
Cliché as it is those words can’t carry the full weight of their meaning because no one possesses the whole world to give in exchange for you…
…except for one person….
…God…
You see GOD made you, and He says in His Word the Holy Bible that He ...“Knit you together in your mother’s womb… fearfully and wonderfully… Wonderful are His works, my soul knows this very well.”
Psalm 139:13-14
Now, He wasn’t ‘afraid’ while making you; ‘Fearfully’ means “with great care and consideration.”
If God the creator with infinite wisdom and understanding put you together with great care – the same Creator God who made all the beauty in this world and in the cosmos we witness, then you are considerably precious, aren’t you?
His word actually also says, speaking of wisdom personified as a woman, and later of a woman who is wise and prudent and an excellent wife:
“She is far more precious than jewels”
Proverbs 3:15, 31:10
But why make you?
He made you for a relationship with Himself; that you may know Him intimately as a Heavenly Father...
...No, not like your earthly father who was fallible and prone to fail you – ...but as a perfect Father who can do no wrong.
“For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the LORD will take me in.”
Psalm 27:10
But because God is everlasting, you need eternal life to have relationship with Him on into eternity. Eternal life however, isn’t something that begins the moment you die, no… it’s something to possess here and now starting in this life.
So what is eternal life then?
“And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.”
John 17:3
Yes, eternal life IS having a relationship with God through faith, knowing the Father through His Son, Jesus… and Jesus said:
“I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
John 10:10
He also said
“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
John 14:6
But there’s an issue, and this issue separates us from God so that we can’t have relationship with Him. Do you know what the issue is?
The issue is our sin. God is Holy and Perfect, beyond understanding, high and lifted up, infinitely glorious in this holiness which means to be ‘set apart’ from all imperfection, which includes those of us who are not perfect.
Thus we are apart from Him and we cannot approach Him of ourselves – He is infinitely distant from us because of our sin.
You have sinned, haven’t you? Dissatisfied with what God has provided for you, you’ve coveted what did not belong toyou? You’ve lied? You’ve stolen items or time? You’ve dishonoured your parents and been disrespectful to them? You’ve been angry within your heart at others and wished them dead, maybe? Or lusted after others within your mind or even had sex with those you were not married to?
Worst of all, you have not loved God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, worshiping Him only as He deserves, right? You’ve made other things or people, or even yourself, OR even other false deities or spiritual philosophies a god to give yourself to instead of Him who made you, haven’t you?
I know what you’re thinking,
“Well nobody’s perfect,” right?
You’re absolutely correct;
“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
Romans 3:23
But we don’t appreciate the full gravity of the situation – what it means to sin against a Holy God and be separated from the One who IS life and the source of life! There’s only one outcome from this…
‘Justice’ is a good thing, wouldn’t you agree?
Yes, it most certainly is. Whenever we or someone we love is wronged, we desire justice be done, don’t we? And when the courts fail us and the criminals get off easy, that’s not “bad justice,” that’s Injustice – the very opposite of justice… and that’s not good.
But God is infinitely good and so He is infinitely just. And that’s why with us He has no choice but to punish us for our sin because He CANNOT be unjust, and that punishment is eternal separation from the very source of physical and spiritual life;
“the wages of sin is death,”
Romans 6:23
But this is NOT God’s desire for you or for anyone because He LOVES you. He MADE you for eternal relationship starting here in this temporal life.
“…the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 6:23
Do you know what God paid for you which determined your worth?
Even though God has seen your every sinful act, heard your every sinful word, and known your every sinful thought, He loved you this much:
“...but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8
“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”
John 15:13
God does not want to CONDEMN you for your sin, He wants to make you FREE from the wages of sin…
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”
John 3:16-17
…so that you may be FREE from the bondage of sin;
“...you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”
1 Corinthians 6:20
Yes, the price that was paid for you was Jesus Christ, the Son of God, God in the flesh, perfect and sinless and not deserving death, going to the cross and suffering an agonizing death and the separation from God the Father for a time on your behalf which you yourself deserved, so that a way could be made for you to be free – God could remain just and perfect and good by paying the penalty of sin HIMSELF through the death of His physical Son, Jesus.
The justified wrath for sin was poured out on the only man who was ever perfect and not deserving the punishment we deserve.
That is how much God loves you.
So if Jesus is God in the flesh and God is infinite, and Jesus going to the cross was the payment for you to be with God, how much was paid for you?
How much are you worth?
That means you’re of infinite value….
You are priceless.
If you already knew that intrinsically, it’s because the Spirit of God whispered that into you. It may have beenjust now when you asked or it may have been throughout your life when you needed to hear it, being whispered into your mind by the Holy Spirit of God. It may – I would hope – have come through other people. For some women, that’s sadly not the case.
No matter who you are, you know this to be true whether or not you’ve tried to stifle its absolute and unwavering truth: God made you, God loves you, and you are priceless to Him, and He wishes for you to turn from sin and give your whole life to Him.
Jesus did not remain dead. He rose from the grave proving that He, as God, had the power to conquer death, and He desires to come and live inside of us to be close to us and to reveal His glory through us to others as we submit to His will.
THIS is what it means to possess eternal life.
By faith you can pray to God right now to accept this free gift He wishes for you to have so you may be brought into the everlasting presence of a Holy God.
You can confess your sins;
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
1 John 1:19
Then confess what you believe God has done for you;
“...if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.”
Romans 10:9-10
Then ‘glorify God in your bodies’ as mentioned before by repenting or “changing your mind” about sin;
“Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out,”
Acts 3:19
“Bear fruit in keeping with repentance.”
Matthew 3:8
Find a Bible-believing, God-honouring Church that loves God with all their mindsand hearts, and loves people especially through service and evangelism, and trains up disciples, andbe baptized in water there as a public profession of what God has done in you by giving you the faith to accept salvation by His grace;
“Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
Acts 2:38
Don’t be deceived by this world, because God is infinitely Holy and good, no amount of ‘good works’ or good deedswould ever make you as good or 'good enough'… …nor would any number of good deeds undo all the sin you have committed as they can't UNDO sin... for good deeds are as ‘filthy rags’ before our infinitely perfect God who can do no wrong.
“We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.”
Isaiah 64:6
No, eternal life is a free gift because God is a loving and good God of ‘grace’, and the faith to believe is a free gift through His Holy Spirit to you;
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
Ephesians 2:8-10
Only God will receive the glory for our being saved. And belief in this results in our good works empowered by the Spirit of God as we live new lives obedient to Him.
If you’ve prayed to God your Father and accepted all of this, then every being in Heaven is rejoicing over what God has done in you!
“Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
Luke 15:10
Now that you know you are precious and priceless and so very valuable and worthwhile, I hope it will influence yourevery decision going forward. I pray you will be freed from all self-destructive habits, and will say ‘No’ to those who wish to use you and treat you in any way less than what you are worth. I pray you will also never again treat yourself or display yourself in a way that is anything less than that of a daughter – a princess – of the Most High King, your Father in Heaven who sits upon the throne with the Son, your brother Jesus, at His right hand.
You are not an object, nor are you what the world has told you you are. You are a highly valued person made in the image of our Lord…
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”
Genesis 1:27
…and He has paid the ultimate price for you to be freed.
“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Mark 10:45
If anyone thinks to treat you as less, be bold and courageous in the Spirit of God, and show them this message so they too will know the truth. Our society is unfortunately very, very broken by sin which is why we treat one another and even ourselves as poorly as we do.
Now it’s time to start getting to know God the Father through Jesus Christ in a more intimate way as was their desire.
You can start by opening the New Testament of the Bible to what is called ‘The Gospel of John’. This particular book reveals so clearly the love of God for humanity and the fact that Jesus was God in the flesh and the only one capable of being the sacrifice for our sins.
